Set and Setting
Set and Setting are an instrumental band from St. Petersburg Florida, whose work encompasses drone and ambient music to experimental rock and metal. Their debut album “Equanimity”, was issued in 2013 via Science of Silence Records, which they supported with the effort of DIY touring throughout the underground and extreme music scenes in all of the U.S. and parts of Canada. In 2014, Set and Setting released their second album, “A Vivid Memory” via Prosthetic Records and continued to tour internationally and locally with bands such as Mouth of the Architect, EyeHateGod, Inter Arma, and Kayo Dot throughout 2015. 2016 brought a tough year of writing and recording while battling injuries within the band limiting live performances. The beginning of 2017 brought Set and Setting’s third full-length album, “Reflectionless” along with a European Tour and a stop at the renown Dunk!Festival in Belgium.
THISQUIETARMY is a guitar-based drone project from Montreal. By combining textural and rhythmic elements of ambient/noise, electronic/shoegaze, post-punk/krautrock, black/doom metal, thisquietarmy creates a wide range of dynamic soundscapes which oscillates between dreamy minimalism and heavily-layered walls of sound, pulsated by thick industrial beats.
Since 2005, thisquietarmy has put out over 40 releases on more than 25 different labels worldwide such as Consouling Sounds, Denovali Records, Aurora Borealis, Alien8 Recordings, Shelter Press & three:four Records. His vast discography also includes collaborations with Aidan Baker (Nadja), Scott Cortez (loveliescrushing), André Foisy (Locrian), Labirinto, Monarch, Noveller, Syndrome (Amenra), USA Out of Vietnam, Year Of No Light & Yellow6, and has taken part in other projects such as Hypnodrone Ensemble & Destroyalldreamers. He also collaborates with Godspeed You! Black Emperor members Philippe Leonard (16mm film loops) as an A/V duo and Aidan Girt (drums) as a guitar/drums duo.
With such a large body of work and 500 live performances in 40 countries, including performances at esteemed festivals such as Drone Activity in Progress for Red Bull Music Academy (Montreal/CA), Nemo Digital Arts Biennale (France), Incubate Festival (Netherlands), Le Guess Who? (Netherlands), Dunk! Festival (Belgium), Amplifest (Portugal), Denovali Festival (Germany), Drone Celebration (Argentina), Moving Noises (Germany), Suoni Per Il Popolo (Canada), Zemlika (Latvia) & Mono No Aware Cinema Arts festival (NY/US), thisquietarmy is a pioneer of the Canadian experimental music scene.
A four piece from Philadelphia, Cleric’s music mixes elements of grindcore, avant garde composition, doom and… something else entirely? Influenced by other metal pioneers such as Meshuggah, Converge, Fantômas, and Neurosis, their music zeroes in on a level of brutality and experimentation that a single band rarely maintains even for a few seconds. In their six years since inception, Cleric has released a number of EPs and a 12″ picture disk through Sound Devastation Records (UK), all of which (for their very high quality and unique & intricate sounds and artwork) have garnered praise and die-hard underground accolade. Having been around awhile, and taken a lot of shit & not given up & built themselves up internally to handle whatever bullshit this world flings their way, this band is just beginning its walk down their shining path.
